Elli Terwiel, Lead Engineer

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont with a minor in green building

  • Masters of Management in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the Smith School of Business at Queens University

P.Eng in British Columbia, Canada

P.E. in California, USA

Experience:

Before starting Sage Structural Engineering, Elli gained 10 years of experience working in both Canada and the United States.  During her time in the United States, she worked for 5 years at Verdant Structural Engineers, an industry-leading structural engineering firm for natural building materials.  Elli helped develop the Verdant S-SIP panel and was a contributor to the book Essential Cob Construction.   Since moving back to Canada, Elli has become a founding member of the Canadian Alliance of Natural Building Engineers (CANBE) and worked on numerous rammed earth and timber frame projects across British Columbia.  

 

Licensed in both countries, Elli can use her experience on projects using materials spanning from concrete, steel, and light frame wood to heavy timber frame, cob, strawbale, adobe, shipping container, earth masonry unit, and rammed earth to bring your project to life-whatever material you choose to use.

Before she was an engineer, Elli was a member of the Canadian National Ski Team, a NCAA Div 1 athlete, an overall North American champion in the slalom event, and competed as a member of the Canadian Olympic Alpine Ski Team in Sochi, Russia in 2014.
